Love it, the halfstep>franklins opener is very good. You could tell Jerry is on fyre. The whole show is great start to finish, its one of those shows that you dont need to skip any songs. The whole band is gelling and it sounds awesome. Light one up, sit back and enjoy the night.

Subject: Great show, great quality
I am so happy to find this! I had this as a cassette in the 80s, it was one of my all-time favorites. I gave my tape collection to a friend in the UK before the internet age and have wanted to get this ever since. :-)

Looks Like Rain is sweet and Donna is really on-key. They are all on super fine form during this show.

Excellent sound quality, richer tone than the other IMO. Thanks!!

This is my favorite Peggy-O. I'm not going to say "it's the best ever." Because that is all opinion anyway. But for some reason, this Peggy-O just treats me right.

For me, this 1/2 step>Franklins just blows away all others. While there are better half steps, The only other Franklins' that come close are 02/26/77 and maybe 12/04/79. The interplay between Keith and Jerry here just rocks. Listen for that quiet, sweet jam before the final verse. Beautiful! Every jam is unique with its own feel.

sorry JJ, but this FT is atrocious.

Sight/sound unseen/heard, I would put ANY 1/2 step -> Franklin's from 1976-77 over this crapfest.

Find a better one...I dare ya.

Good show, two high energy sets from start to finish, although I gotta say I don't like one song post-drums, which is what bumps this 4.5 star show down to 4 stars.

As good now as it was then! This sure beats my muddy copy of an audience tape. Although the Jai-Alai Fronton was a cozy venue (~2000 Heads), the building's acoustics were less than desirable. The sound crew worked a miracle and the band seemed in good spirits that night. JerryĆ¢s grin was ear-to-ear for one reason or another. This was a special treat in South Florida which was finally getting its music scene back on track in the aftermath of the Anita Bryant Brigide's attacks on Jim Morrison following the ill-fated Dinner Key show. Most concerts of the day were relegated to a pathetic venue in the Everglades called the Sportatorium. Aside from the politics of all that, the show was crisp, generally tight with those wonderful floundering moments that made the Dead what they were.

The SBD is still at the other site. The sound is not as clean as the October Winterland shows, but this was a very high-energy concert. The performance quality makes up for the sound quality.

Subject: 78 sometimes sloppy compared to 77
It's generally accepted that the Dead hit a quintessential peak in '77-- especially during the May run of shows. After '77, things started a gradually nosedive, largely attributed to Garcia's growing addiction(s). This show in '78 is terrific, though its reveals the cracks that were gradually forming. The band is sloppy at times, Donna is getting more out of tune in parts, and Keith (whose playing and keyboard sound I love) treads water with standard rhythm playing. That said, the Dead were wonderful in those years, and this show has great songs, fun performances. You can make an interesting comparison with the crispness of a '77 show, though.

Great show! Was working at a record store in Ft. Lauderdale and a fellow employee convinced me to go. Loved it. It opened up a new world of music and how to appreciate music.

My first Dead concert and maybe my favorite. Jerry'd been sick, shows were cancelled for a couple of weeks after Capitol Theater show in Passaic. Band's first show in a couple of weeks.
Well rested. High energy.

Subject: One of my favourites...
Definitely one of my favourite shows out of all the ones I've heard so far. Looks Like Rain (with some nice vocals from Donna) and a blistering, not to mention fun and loose sounding, Eyes Of The World are my highlights here. If you don't dance to the latter, there's something wrong with you! - just grab those two and if you like them, get the rest. You can't go wrong.

I have no idea what the reviewer steak was talkin' about. This is good playing. the half-step kicks off on all 12 cylinders, which is followed by a full franklins. The rest of the set is great, solid and soulful with well thought out and crafty jams. The same goes for the second set. Smoke one and stream line it if you don't believe me. the sound is not the greatest, i had a better version on tape, but nonetheless. check out it out.

This show is amazing. That being said as a show it's actually not all that great- it's about as fluffy 77-78 soundiing as they ever got, with VERY steady, almost cheesy drumbeats that, due to the fact that they play a lot of Set1 type songs, can get tiring. HOWEVER, the Half Step and Franklin's Tower are AWESOME, and the last NFA and GDTRFB are pretty good as well. It's one of the few shows that I find myself skippping many songs, but the ones that are goood are great, and Keith is really bangin on the keyboard they way with that electric piano-y thing he played a lot at thsi time.

An excellent and under-appreciated show. This has one of - if not the - very best Franklin's Towers I've ever heard. Music Never Stopped is likewise fantastic, especially the long jam after the final chorus.
